About Us

Garnedd Ddu was originally a working farm. John and Nerys bought the land containing the old farmhouse and the dilapidated farm buildings in January of 1985. Over 20 years later Garnedd Ddu has been transformed from a disused farm to a thriving family run business with an emphasis on providing families with an enjoyable stay in pleasant surroundings.  This transformation has been a labor of love. After its purchase, the farmhouse was renovated extensively with every effort made to retain its original charm and character. John, Nerys, and their young family moved in August 1986 and by 1988 had applied for planning permission to renovate the old buildings. Permission was forthcoming and the work began in 1989.

First to be renovated was Cae Ffynnon, which used to be a functioning pigsty. This was completed in May of 1990. Next was the old stables (Y Stabl) in 1992. Y Stabl is now a comfortably furnished cottage with all the trappings of a modern home, a far cry from the building that provided John with a blank canvas on which to work.

Over the next 12 years 4 more buildings were transformed in a similar style; Trem yr Wyddfa (1995), Bodhyfryd (1998), Cil Y Coed (1999) and most recently Y Beudy (2004).

In 2003 John and Nerys purchased more land surrounding Garnedd Ddu to extend the facilities. In 2005 they began developing the courtyard area and have cultivated the landscape to complement the idyllic surroundings. Each year sees new developments, with a luxury static caravan being introduced to the roster of high-quality accommodation in 2019.

The future at Garnedd Ddu is an exciting prospect from the proprietors' perspective. John and Nerys hope that your experiences at Garnedd Ddu are just as rewarding and enjoyable.
